Description

🏛️ Babbage Island, WA – From 2 November 2026 – Heritage precinct caretaker – Volunteer position

The One Mile Jetty Heritage Precinct on Babbage Island, Western Australia, is looking for a reliable volunteer caretaker or caretaker couple from 2 November 2026.

This is a volunteer position with a registered charity that receives no government funding. There is currently no wage or other payment available, although the organisation hopes that may change in the future as the precinct develops.

The role would suit a single traveller or couple with their own caravan or campervan who would enjoy spending time in a unique coastal location while helping care for an important local heritage site.

The role

Duties will include:

✅ Watering and mowing lawns
✅ Opening and helping manage the museums
✅ General upkeep of the heritage precinct
✅ Keeping the grounds and facilities neat and presentable
✅ Helping keep an eye on the precinct and reporting any issues
✅ Assisting visitors where required

What’s provided

While this is an unpaid volunteer role, the caretaker will have access to:

✅ Caravan or campervan parking site
✅ Water
✅ Power
✅ Basic bathroom and laundry facilities
✅ Spectacular views across the mouth of the Gascoyne River and the Indian Ocean

Who they’re looking for

This opportunity would suit someone who is:

✅ Reliable and responsible
✅ Comfortable working independently
✅ Practical and willing to help with general upkeep
✅ Friendly and comfortable interacting with visitors
✅ Travelling with their own caravan or campervan
✅ Interested in local history and community heritage

Singles and couples are both welcome to apply.

The current volunteers are leaving on 2 November 2026, so the organisation is hoping to have the next caretaker commence from around that date.

This could be a rewarding opportunity for travellers who would enjoy volunteering their time to support a community heritage project while staying in a spectacular part of Western Australia.
