Rock Ridge Farming is seeking a couple to live onsite at our workers accommodation in Walkamin in an assistant caretaker role. This can be in your own caravan or on-site accommodation provided. A couple is preferred to share the workload and the experience although we would also consider a single person if they suited the role.
Rock Ridge Farming is an Approved Employer of the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility Scheme, employing workers from the Pacific Countries (as well as locals and travellers) to assist with farming production.
We are searching for some enthusiastic and energetic people willing to assist our site managers due to our recent expansion. Glen and Marie our managers will remain in their position and are seeking assistance to share the increased load which has come from an increase in numbers.
This accommodation site, affectionally known as “Pacific Village” , is just that, a beautiful peaceful village nestled at the foot of the hills of The Atherton Tablelands in Far North Queensland. Up to 140 seasonal farm workers call Pacific Village home while they work away from home.
The grounds consist of large shady trees, individual homes as well as a worker’s camp style accommodation featuring a state-of-the-art communal kitchen and recreation room. We are very proud of this village and feel that for the right couple you too will be proud to call it home and to be part of the Pacific Village Family.
Your duties will include:
- Assisting the current site managers in any jobs needed around the property. This will include a combination of cleaning, making beds, gardening, grounds keeping and handyman work
About the successful applicants:
- You must be physically able to assist with duties such as cleaning, making beds, gardening, on-foot site checks, raking, weeding, picking up rubbish etc. All relevant conditions or injuries must be disclosed.
- You are retired/semi-retired or are someone who enjoys being at home most of the time (someone who enjoys going on holidays for long periods of time would not be suitable for this position)
- You have a current Australian driver’s licence and are comfortable driving 12-seater vans as airport pick ups and drop offs may be required from time to time.
- You have great people skills and will develop good relationships with all residents at the accommodation
- You are culturally sensitive and enjoy talking to people of all nationalities.
- You are ok to be in close contact with ill people, as part of your role will be accompanying ill/injured employees to medical appointments if required
- You will be confident in conflict resolution and approaching people to address noise complaints, untidy rooms, unacceptable behaviour etc.
- You are energetic, willing to help out with odd jobs and random tasks and have a good attitude
- You must be of sober habits and a good clean style of person
- You must not be dependent on any nonprescription drugs
- You are happy to take direction from the site managers and accept your role is to assist them.
- You must be available over this Christmas break
Highly desirable:
- Maintenance experience (such as handyman, electrician, carpenter etc to assist with general accommodation maintenance)
- Previous experience with seasonal workers or Pacific Islanders
- Current First Aid and/or CPR certificate

The duties associated with this position are seasonal and vary week-to-week. However, we expect that the average hours required would be around 10-15 hours per week (combined for a couple). Depending on your abilities, there may be other opportunities for paid work as the accommodation gets busier (this paid work would also be seasonal/fluctuating).
This live-in position will not suit parents of dependent children. Non-residents and working holiday makers need not apply.
Position to commence as soon as possible but no later than 1st December 2024.
