About the Business and the Role
The Eromanga Natural History Museum is not just Australia's newest dinosaur museum—it's an adventure into the ancient past set in the heart of the stunning Australian Outback. This world-class museum is dedicated to discovering, conserving, and showcasing dinosaurs, megafauna, and other natural history wonders from this unique region. As a not-for-profit organization, we connect with the public through immersive experiences, educational programs, groundbreaking research, and captivating displays. Located just 3 km outside Eromanga, South West Queensland, our facility offers an unforgettable blend of educational tours and luxurious 4-star equivalent accommodation.
We are nestled in the iconic outback town of Eromanga, which features a State School, swimming pool, police station, community hall, park, historical museum, classic outback Hotel, Motel, Caravan Park, and a vibrant emerging tourism industry. Eromanga is just a one-hour drive from the regional hub of Quilpie, which offers commercial flights twice a week, with daily flights from Charleville, three hours away by car.
Job Tasks and Responsibilities
- Lead Guided Tours: Share your passion for history by leading visitors through our fascinating exhibits and behind-the-scenes areas.
- Customer Engagement: Provide stellar customer service at the front desk and museum shop.
- Maintain Cleanliness: Ensure our workshops, reception areas, and guest accommodations are spotless.
- Answer Enquiries: Assist visitors with their questions and provide insightful information.
- Support Lodge Operations: Help with housekeeping and catering at the Lodge.
- Social Media: Assist in capturing and sharing exciting moments on our social platforms.
- Museum Operations: Contribute to the smooth running of our museum.
- Safety and Compliance: Maintain a safe workplace by adhering to WHS policies and procedures.
- Versatile Tasks: Take on a variety of other engaging tasks as needed.
- Training: Participate in comprehensive on-the-job training to enhance your skills.
Skills and Experience
Qualifications
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Blue Card registration for working with children.
- Food Handling – Food Safety Level 1 (Opportunity to undertake while employed).
- Responsible Service of Alcohol (Opportunity to undertake while employed)
Experience
- Prior experience in customer service, tour guiding, or housekeeping is a plus but not essential. We value enthusiasm, interest, and a willingness to learn. We provide extensive on-the-job training.
- Ideal candidates may have:
- Experience in front-line customer service or interpretation at tourist attractions, educational institutions, or not-for-profits.
- Familiarity with electronic point-of-sale and cash handling.
- Experience in reservations and housekeeping of guest accommodations.
- Skills in cleaning and maintaining facilities.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication.
- Well-presented, friendly, and polite demeanour.
- Passion for public speaking, interpretation, and education.
- Strong customer service orientation and delivery.
- Keen attention to detail.
